Walkers at the Fairy Glen

The Fairy Glen and Kilbroney WoodEleven of us made our way to Rostrevor for our February outing to the Fairy Glen and Kilbroney Forest Park. We were delighted to welcome newcomer Colum to the group.  So on a calm but cloudy day, we set off across the park (where we saw some really energetic people preparing for some sort of running challenge), towards the Fairy Glen and followed the Kilbroney River for a about a mile before striking off across fields, along a road and back into the forest. The 6 mile route took us through the woods on a gradual climb, eventually to cross the river where we found some picnic tables giving us the opportunity of lunch in more style than usual.  Then it was off again downhill along a back road to Rostrevor and the park. The walk afforded a great variety of scenery – forest, park and mountains, all overlooking the beautiful Carlingford Lough. Our next date is March 6 when we have a 5 mile walk on Tievedockaragh in the Mournes. Meet at 8.45 am in the Church car park.
