Have Your Say - Youth

At the beginning of 2009 the Rector and Select Vestry of Ballyholme embarked on a parish consultation under the title ‘On the Way – Have your say: taking the best of the past into the future’. Our aim was to set some goals for the run up to 2015 (the 1400th anniversary of the death of St Columbanus) and the years following. To help us settle on what we believe to be God’s way forward we canvassed the opinion of the people of God as widely as possible.  In addition to the five questionnaire response forms and the sermons on Sunday we circulated an additional response form in September, asking the question ‘How can we build on the success of our youth and children’s ministry?’ A group of 14 parents (all mothers incidentally) met to discuss the issues raised in the Parish Centre on Tuesday 29 September. A number of other parishioners who could not be present for the discussions made written submissions using the response sheets.  All these group and individual responses are now available for your perusal. Where possible we have reproduced your contributions word for word and the vast majority of the responses you will see appear completely unedited. In a few places we have done our best to clarify what we think was being said. Most of the feedback received focussed on the activities we run for children rather than for young people. Accordingly, as you will read from the February edition of the parish magazine, many of the most significant concerns identified last September have already received our attention and been acted on practically. Other ideas have been gratefully received and recorded by our Youth and Children’s Co-ordinator and his leaders. Once again, thank you to Joan Dales for her efforts in drawing all the responses together so accurately and clearly.
